Pokémon GO Adds Festive Pikachu and First Johto Pokémon
Starting now, Pokémon GO players can receive some new New Pokémon including a holiday themed Pikachu, and a handful of second generation Pokémon.
Togepi and Pichu can be caught by hatching eggs. Of course this means you can currently only get them by chance, but this is the first introduction to Pokémon form the Gold/Silver games. "Several other" Pokémon have also been added to the game, but it looks like that will be a surprise.
Niantic promises that more Johto Pokémon will be added to the game over the coming months. Here is the official statement that was made on the game's website:
Professor Willow has discovered Togepi and Pichu hatching from Eggs! Starting later today, Trainers will have the opportunity to hatch these and several other Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto Region in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games. These are the first of more Pokémon coming to Pokémon GO over the next few months. Be sure to use the hashtag #PokemonGO on Twitter to share your experiences as you explore your local neighborhoods with family and friends, walk to hatch these Pokémon from Eggs, and register them to your collection this holiday season. We can’t wait to see what Pokémon you’ve hatched!
In addition to the first second generation Pokémon, players can also catch a special edition Pikachu starting now through December 29. The special edition Pikachu will be wearing a festive hat when found, and Niantic says that it will available worldwide.
So get out there and become frustrated while attempting to hatch some new Pokémon, but don't forget that cute little holiday Pikachu.
