Metroid Prime: Blast Ball Suprise Launched for Free

Metroid Prime: Blast Ball Suprise Launched for Free

Metroid Prime: Federation Force won't be out until August 19, but for those waiting, you can already try out the game's multiplayer mode, Blast Ball.

Today Nintendo stealth released Metroid Prime: Blast Ball for free on the eShop. This "demo" includes a tutorial, a practice mode, and full access to the online mode.

Blast Ball has two teams of three, where players run around in mech suits fighting to score the giant ball in their opponents goal. It's essentially Rocket League meets Titanfall , and it's a ton of fun.

The controls take a little getting used to, as Nintendo once again tries to get players to use the gyroscope to move the camera around. Fortunately, you can also switch to use your c-stick as a camera button, a great feature for owners of the New 3DS. I only played the game on my New Nintendo 3DS XL so I don't know what options original 3DS or 2DS owners have.

Nintendo says that once the full game launches on August 19, the servers will be switched to Federations Force's servers.
