Xbox One Was the Best Selling Console in July
Last month's NPD numbers are in and the Xbox One was the best selling console for the month of July.
This is the first time the Xbox One has out-sold Sony's PS4 since October 2015, when Halo 5: Guardians was released. Microsoft mentioned that they are "honored that the Xbox One was the best-selling console in the U.S." for July. They also mentioned that gamers were spending 18% more time on Xbox One over this time last year.
Last month it was noted that console sales were down 42% over the same period last year. This could be due to the anticipation of newer hardware, like the Scorpion or the Neo.
This is a big victory for Microsoft and it is interesting to think about what could have caused this change in the market to occur. Perhaps all the talk about Sony's PS4 Neo has slowed down sales of the regular PS4. Microsoft also dropped the price of the standard Xbox One to $250 to make room for the all-new Xbox One S. Fortunately for Microsoft, news of the Xbox One S hasn't seemed to slow down sales of the regular Xbox One.
