Zelda: Breath of the Wild Will be Wii U's Swan Song

Zelda: Breath of the Wild Will be Wii U's Swan Song

Today Nintendo confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be the final release by Nintendo on the Wii U.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed this in an interview with Polygon last Friday, during the Switch event. "From a first-party standpoint, there's no new development coming after the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," Fils-Aime told Polygon. "We really are at the end of life for Wii U."

Although this is quite unfortunate, it isn't unlike Nintendo to end support for a console quickly as the next one comes to market. When the Wii U was being released, Nintendo had little to no support for the Wii.

The Wii U was released in November of 2012, and now just four years and change later, the console is all but dead. Nintendo announced plans to stop producing Wii U units late last year, and it seems now they will stop supporting the console with software.
