The Founder of Namco has Passed

Bnadai Namco has released the sad news that Namco founder Masaya Nakamura has passed. Although news was announced today, Nakamura actually passed on January 22.

Nakamura founded Nakamura Manufacturing in 1955, a company that built amusement-rides. Overtime, the company branched out into new fields and eventually began to create video games. The company was later referred to simply as "Namco," until 2005 when Namco merged with Bandai to become "Bandai Namco."

Namco is well known for their contribution to the arcade era of video games, including titles like Galaga, Xevious, and Dig Dug.  In 1980 Namco changed the world of video games forever, with the release of Pac-Man. Pac-Man is still to this day regarded as one of the most important Japanese video games ever released, and has inspired and challenged millions of players around the world for generations.

The industry mourns over the loss of such an icon today. Our best thoughts and condolences go out to Nakamura and his loved ones.
