Cuphead is Beautiful But Too Difficult For my Bitch Ass
I'm in a bit of a jam with this gorgeous game.
Cuphead is perhaps the most beautiful video game of all time. Is it too soon to say that? I feel like that isn't totally incorrect.
Simply put, no game has ever made my jaw drop the way this game does. The animation is absolutely superb, and the controls and gameplay do not take even a slight hit as a result, resulting in a truly masterful game from top to bottom.
Quite honestly, StudioMDHR has created something so special with Cuphead, but I'm afraid it might not be for me. The game is TOUGH. I mean, sometimes it is grueling hard. If you look around the internet to see what critics are saying you'll notice that most agree the difficulty is fair and rewarding, however, I'm not most people. I've only managed to make it through two boss fights and one Run and Gun level so far. That's it.
I want to continue playing, but I get so frustrated with the difficulty. The game looks so incredible and all the detail is captivating, but I don't know if I can withstand the difficulty and see this game to the end.
I'm from a later generation. One that believes Super Mario 64 was the greatest game ever made, and never knew there was a time when games didn't offer save files. Despite my love for older games (NES, SNES, arcade, etc.), this is something I had to go back to as a teenager/adult to develop an appreciation for. The result is that I'm somewhat of a bitch gamer. Video games today are rarely difficult, and that's great for most of us that just want to be able to play through a game and experience it in its entirety. But games like Cuphead and the older classics that inspire it are different. Back then, the fun was the difficulty and the challenge. Games like Contra and Mega Man were great because you had to have crazy skill and dedication to come out on top.
It's really unfortunate because a game has never grabbed my attention for its art style like Cuphead has. I just don't think I'll be able to finish the darn thing. And no, watching video games being played on YouTube or Twitch is not an option. I might be from a newer generation but I'm not an animal.
Anyways, check out my YouTube page where you can watch videos of me playing video games for extended periods of time.
