Sonic Forces Looks Like the Sonic Game I've Been Missing
After Sega announced that Project Sonic 2017 was officially titled Sonic Forces, we got our first quick look at the game.
Here's the official gameplay demo that was shown at SXSW:
There's a lot of "that looks like Sonic Generations" going around, and that would be fine with me, however, this game triggers nostalgia for a slightly different Sonic game.
Sonic Unleashed was released in the Fall of 2008, and boy did people hate it. For me, it's always been my biggest guilty pleasure game. Yes, the God of War-esque Werehog beat-em-up levels were mediocre, but everything else about Sonic Unleashed was captivating to me. It had a more dramatic and expansive story, beautiful hub worlds worth exploring, and the best fast-passed rollercoaster 3D Sonic levels that have ever been crafted (in my opinion).
Sonic Forces has that edgy appeal to it that Generations lost. Sure, both Generations and Unleashed essentially play the same in terms of the 3D Sonic levels, but to me, Unleashed was so much more specially. Sonic Generations was good because it cut the crap and got right to the action. Sonic Unleashed stumbled, but had immense potential to be something greater than what it was.
I want to play that Sonic game. The one that pushes the envelope, even if it doesn't quite succeed in doing so, as Sonic games often do. We haven't seen much of Sonic Forces yet, but this slight glimpse provides me hope. From the one Sonic fan that just wants the series to take itself seriously and put in all the resources to making it the best that it can be.
Plus, it's coming to Switch, so...
