I'm Going to Jump Through Hoops Again for the SNES Classic Edition and Star Fox 2
Oh boy, here we go again.
Nintendo has announced the Super NES Classic Edition, the follow up to last year's infamous NES Classic Edition. I say infamous because Nintendo made it so hard to get, that everyone ended up hating the damn thing.
On September 29 this bad boy will release with 21 games, including the never-before released Star Fox 2. That's a huge selling point. Damn you, Nintendo.
Nintendo has confirmed that they do plan to produce more of these than they did with the NES Classic Edition, but who the hell knows what that means! For now, the collectable is confirmed to be in production through the rest of the calendar year, so maybe they'll kill this one of soon too. Would anyone be surprised?
As someone who isn't willing to take any chances this time around, I'm going to camp outside my nearest retailer to ensure I get one of these. Yes, I am vowing to miss out on a night of sleep and wait in-front of a damn electronics store to make sure that I can get my hands on a SNES Classic. Why am I doing this? Because Nintendo won't let us pre-order them! Again! Or at least not yet.
No word as of yet if pre-orders will go live for the SNES Classic Edition, though I'd be surprised if they did. I think Nintendo wants it to be a blood bath. Those sadistic guys get some sick pleasure out of these kinds of things.
The SNES Classic Edition will retail for $79.99, a full $20 more than the NES Classic was, but for good reason. It comes with two controllers instead of one now, the games are much better (not subjective), and it includes an unreleased game. However, Nintendo says to unlock Star Fox 2 you'll have to first complete the first level of Star Fox. Not a bad prerequisite, but unnecessary nonetheless. Below is the full list of games that will be included in this tiny console.
- Contra III: The Alien Wars™
- Donkey Kong Country™
- Final Fantasy III
- Kirby™ Super Star
- Kirby’s Dream Course™
- The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™
- Mega Man® X
- Secret of Mana
- Star Fox™
- Star Fox™ 2
- Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
- Super Castlevania IV™
- Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts®
- Super Mario Kart™
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars™
- Super Mario World™
- Super Metroid™
- Super Punch-Out!! ™
- Yoshi’s Island™
And yes, the controller cable will be longer this time. A full two feet longer now, making it a total five feet long. Still kinda short, but progress.
