Miiverse Officially Ending Five Years After Its Launch
Perhaps the greatest feature on the Wii U at launch was Miiverse. Who could resist the world's most positive and artistic social media platform, designed exclusively around games that play on Nintendo platforms?
Well, unfortunately the life of Miiverse will have been short lived, as Nintendo has announced that the beloved service will be shutting down on November 8, 2017 at 6:00 GMT.
Here is Nintendo on what will happen when the service shutters:
It will no longer be possible to access Miiverse from your internet browser or using a Wii U console or system in the Nintendo 3DS family. All services offered through Miiverse, including reading and submitting posts and exchanging messages with friends, will no longer be available.
It will no longer be possible to use in-game services and features related to Miiverse in Wii U and Nintendo 3DS software titles which previously supported them.
Miiverse posts will no longer be displayed in WaraWara Plaza on Wii U.
If you don't want your history on Miiverse to be lost in the ether, Nintendo has added a new feature to aid users with preserving their posts. Log into your Miiverse account and select the new option on the home screen called "Post History Download Information," and from there you can download a list of all your posts as screenshots onto your PC.
Of course the end of this service was inevitable from the moment we realized that the Nintendo Switch doesn't have Miiverse. Yes, all good things must come to an end, but this seems a little too soon for Miiverse, especially considering the fact that it's on the 3DS, a platform Nintendo claims to still be fully supporting, despite the release of the Switch.
RIP Miiverse. You may not have been the most accessibly social platform, but you sure were one of the more creative and adorable ones.
