Halo 5: Falling in Love with Warzone Firefight
After about the 12 hour mark in Destiny 2, I had successfully completed the campaign. Eager to be "raid ready" I decided to play some Halo 5: Guardians. Yeah, I'm not quite sure what happened there.
I was so high on Destiny 2 during my time spend with the campaign. I wanted to continue to play it and log a hundred plus hours in, but I felt like I was cheating on another game I love that has a somewhat similar feel.
Halo 5 blew me away in 2015, and I'm still in love with it to it to this day. At this moment in particular, Warzone Firefight is my crack of choice.
I wasn't that on board with it last year when the mode was introduced. Being a huge OG Firefight fan, I wasn't too pleased with the new twist. After over a year of getting over myself, I can't help but adore 343's twist on this fan-favorite mode.
I play Heroic Firefight specifically, because, let's be honest, I suck at Halo. It's the perfect amount of challenge. Me and seven other random goons get matched together and are thrown into five unique waves of enemies, with a random assortment of tasks. I die a lot, but I still score big thanks to REQ cards. Fortunately, REQ cards never feel like play-to-win for me. I constantly get rewarded with ew packs, and I'm always urged to try new strategies based on what cards I have in stock. I love it, it's the perfect game to just waste a few hours away in while burning through a week's worth of podcasts.
The five allotted minutes per round is the perfect amount of time to get a match done, as long as everyone is focused, while still making things feel rewarding and compelling. The Firefight maps are great, for the most part, and each feels distinctly from a different era of Halo to me. I can't help but feel like Warzone Firefight is the perfect love letter to Halo fans.
I love Halo 5. What's wrong with you people? Why don't more of ya'll play this game?
